Four things a browser tab cannot do
The code finds youA lock-screen notification with the code, auto-copied, even when the site is on your laptop. No tab switching, no refresh.
The key survives the browserClearing browser data deletes the browser's copy of your key. The app keeps it in the phone's secure storage, behind Face ID or your PIN, with an encrypted backup you control.

The extension puts a small button in every email field: press it to fill a fresh address for that site, then watch the code field fill on its own when the email lands. It uses the key already in your browser and needs no account.
